Zinedine Zidane has praised a former player of his, Jese Rodriguez, ahead of facing the Las Palmas side he is playing now.

Jese has been at Madrid for a while and came through the youth ranks and would have established himself as a regular in the senior squad, however he was sold to PSG, who later loaned him to Las Palmas.

Although Zidane sold the former Spain Under-21 star, he remains respectful of his talents.

“He’s a formidable player with enormous potential,” Zizou told the media. “He’s a Spanish player of great quality. I like him a lot as a player and as a person.

“I hope that his decision to join Las Palmas pays off – starting from Thursday. I hope from then he can do great things with them.”

The Champions League-winning coach believes there might be a simple explanation why he did not shine in Ligue 1.

“In Paris, things did not go as he would have wanted, maybe because he didn’t have the minutes he required on the pitch to impose himself,” Zidane said.

“Now I with him all the best starting from Thursday, and that he rediscovers his best level because he’s a formidable player.”

Jese has played four times since returning to La Liga, but has been in the losing side on each occasion.
