Adam Clayton has signed a new contract with Middlesbrough until 2021.
The 28-year-old joined Boro in 2014 and has been an ever-present in Aitor Karanka’s midfield.
He told the club website: “I’ve put pen to paper, finally. It’s been going on in the background for a few weeks so to get it over the line and guarantee myself coming here for the next couple of years is really good.”
After playing a crucial role in Aitor Karanka’s first two seasons in charge, the 28-year-old has also been an integral member of the squad this year, nailing down the holding midfield spot in the 4-1-4-1 system the manager has often used since the 0-0 draw with Arsenal early in the season.
The ex-Manchester City and Huddersfield man has made 26 appearances so far this season.
