The Supreme Court has sacked Abubakar Danladi, a senator representing Taraba North in the Nigerian Senate.

The apex court also declared Alhaji Shuaibu Lau, as the senator to represent Taraba North. The court gave the orders while delivering judgment in the appeal filed by Lau.

Lau had challenged the decision of the Court of Appeal that upturned his victory during the primary elections, that he was wrongfully substituted.

The apex court ordered him to refund all salaries and allowances earned in the Senate within 90 days.

It also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate issued to Danladi and issue a fresh certificate of return to Lau.

Mr. Danladi was sacked by the Supreme Court on the same day a member of the House of Representatives, Herman Hembe, was also sacked by the apex court.

Mr. Hembe, who represents Vandikwa/ Konshisha constituency of Benue State was not the valid candidate of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, the court ruled.

The court also ordered that Mr. Hembe be replaced with Dorathy Mato, who was declared the right winner of the APC primaries.

It is also understood that Mr. Hembe was ordered to return all the salaries and allowances he received as lawmaker since he was sworn in in 2015.
