French champions Monaco have moved to replenish their dwindling stock of stars by signing young striker Adama Diakhaby from Rennes.

The 21-year-old Corsican, a former Tottenham trialist who scored four Ligue 1 goals for Rennes last season, has signed a five-year contract at the Stade Louis II.

He arrives in the principality following the big-money sales of key figures Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko, while teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe continues to be linked with a summer exit after notching 26 times in his breakthrough campaign.

Diakhaby told Monaco’s official website: “I’m very happy to join Monaco, a club with a very ambitious sporting project who field a lot of young players.

“I’m here to display my talent and to progress as much as possible.”

Monaco begin the defence of their Ligue 1 title against Toulouse on Friday night.

“Adama Diakhaby is a very promising young player who has already developed in a season in Ligue 1,” added Monaco’s vice-president and chief executive Vadim Vasilyev.

“He is a fast and technical player capable of making a difference. His qualities and profile fit perfectly into our project. We are convinced that he will integrate perfectly within our group to develop its full potential.”
