Las Palmas have appointed former Liverpool assistant manager Pako Ayestaran as their new coach.
Pako Ayestaran will take charge of the La Liga club until the end of the season after Manolo Marquez resigned on Monday, less than three months after taking charge.
Marquez quit after a 2-0 home defeat to Leganes left Las Palmas 15th in the table with six points from six games.
The 54-year-old Ayestaran, who was assistant to Rafael Benitez at both Valencia and Liverpool, and replaced Gary Neville at The Mestalla after initially joining the former Manchester United defender’s backroom staff, faces a tough start.
Las Palmas must travel to league leaders Barcelona on Sunday
Here’s the official Las Palmas statement on the appointment
“Pako Ayestaran will be the new coach of Las Palmas, after an agreement was reached (on Wednesday) afternoon,” the statement read.
“Ayestaran arrives at Las Palmas accompanied by two assistants, David Caneda and Jose Viela. Paquito Ortiz will continue to be part of the technical staff.
“Ayestaran will be presented to the media at a press conference later on Thursday.”
