Former Chelsea and Real Madrid defender, Ricardo Carvalho has been handed a seven-month prison sentence for tax fraud in Spain.
The defender will not be serving any jail term due to Spanish rules, any sentence under two years for non-violent crimes handed to defendants without prior convictions are suspended.
Carvalho still plays professionally for Shanghai SIPG admitted to tax evasion relating to image rights in 2011 and 2012 and paid it in full. And a fine of €142,882.
Prosecutors had argued for a 12-month sentence and a larger fine of €300,000.
Carvalho’s former clubs also include Porto and Monaco, while he won Euro 2016 with Portugal at international level last year.
