Barcelona made an enquiry about Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot last summer, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona are long-term admirers of the France international and contacted PSG about his availability last year.

The LaLiga leaders, according to Mundo Deportivo, proposed including Adrien Rabiot in the deal which took Neymar from Barca to PSG.

However, the proposal was rejected by PSG, who consider Rabiot to be one of their ‘franchise players’.

Rabiot, who has played in 27 of PSG’s 31 league games this season, has just one more year remaining on his current Parc des Princes deal.

The runaway Ligue 1 leaders may look to cash in on the highly-rated central midfielder rather than lose him on a free transfer in 2019.

Barcelona are on the lookout for new midfielders with Andres Iniesta yet to commit his future to the club.

Both Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic can play as holding midfielders but Rabiot would add much-needed competition to Barcelona’s engine room.
