Two premier security agencies in Nigeria – the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Security (DSS) – are urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the gubernatorial election in Edo state – scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 10, 2016.

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, they cited security concerns as the reason for the request.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, and an agent of the DSS, Garba Abdullahi, stressed that the call was necessitated following the threat by those they referred to as “insurgents” and “extremists” to cause mayhem in the country between September 12 and 13.
