According to the management of the varsity, such a message remains spurious as it does not offer admission to students by text messages.

The elucidation is coming against the back of increasing anxiety and unease among candidates over their admission status for the 2016/2017 academic session.

However, in an online statement, on its website, on Monday, the university said:

“It has come to the notice of the university authorities that a text message is being sent to prospective students by unknown persons notifying them that they have been given admission into the University of Lagos.

“This is a scam.  The message did not emanate from the University of Lagos.

“Members of the public are advised to ignore this message as the University of Lagos does not send text messages to admitted candidates and it does not require anyone to call any number.

“The University website is the only authentic source of information on admissions.”
