La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna have sacked coach Gaizka Garitano following the weekend’s 4-0 loss to Leganes.
The loss, a fourth in a row for the side, leaves Depor precariously placed above the drop zone with just two points separating them and Sporting Gijon, who occupy the final spot.
“The administration of the Real Club Deportivo has taken the decision to terminate the contract of Gaizka Garitano as coach of the team,” a statement read.
“The club wants to thank sincerely the Basque coach and his team for their dedication, effort and professionalism they have shown.”
“Deportivo B coach Cristobal Parralo will manage Monday’s training session.”
Garitano, 41, succeeded Victor at the helm last summer but managed only four wins in 23 league games and did not mastermind an away victory this season.
The former Real Sociedad player made a name for himself as a coach when he led Eibar to back-to-back promotions and into the top flight for the first time in their history in three seasons at the club between 2012 and 2015.
