Zlatan Ibrahimovic has lifted his first trophy with United and he is not at all surprised, saying this was what he predicted.
Ibrahimovic, who joined on free transfer from PSG in the summer, scored a brace to beat Southampton 3-2. He has 26 goals in all competitions.
And the 35-year-old was asked after his match-winning display in the final if he was surprised by how well his debut season has gone.
“No, no. This is what I predicted. Everything I thought would happen,” he told Sky Sports. “The only thing is the others didn’t see it. And I came here to show them what I saw and what I would do.
“Apparently to many I could not do it, but I keep going and doing what I am doing every year.”
“This is what I came for, I came to win and I am winning,” he said. “I have to keep going because the more I win the more satisfied I get.
“You appreciate winning more the older you get, it’s all about winning and collecting trophies. This is my 32nd trophy, wherever I have been I have won.”
“It was nice. It was very nice,” he said. “They came back to 2-2 and we looked a bit tired, but then I got the chance and I scored.
“It was a fantastic cross from [Ander] Herrera. This is a team effort, it’s not individual.”
