Marco Veratti wants to see Paris-Saint Germain make big additions in the transfer market this summer in order to convince him to stay.
Marco Veratti has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona and his agent, Donato Di Campli, has admitted he could be tempted by a move to a “top European club”. The 24-year-old, who is under contract with PSG until 2021, accepts it is not a foregone conclusion he will leave but he wants to see PSG significantly strengthen a squad that finished eight points behind Monaco in Ligue 1 last season.
“I do not have to go at all costs. I want to see if this time PSG can really make a great team. In that event, I will be happy to stay,” Veratti told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Every year they say they will put together a great team, but then we saw the results. The promises are not enough. If this time, [Antero] Henrique maintains what he says, then I will be happy to stay. Nobody is forcing me to leave.”
On Saturday, Verratti posted a photo of the article covered in question marks on his Instagram account, but Italian journalist Alessandro Grandesso stood by his report.
Sport Mediaset reported that Verratti rejected a contract extension worth €12 million per season before meeting Henrique in Paris this week after flying home from Ibiza early.
L’Equipe also claimed that Verratti has sought legal advice from his lawyers to know what consequences he could face if he does not report for preseason training in July.
