Prominent Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has distanced herself from some write-ups attributed to her in which she was purported to have said she supported the current Biafra agitation.
She also reacted to the report that claimed that she said she’s “Biafran and nothing else.”
The headline of one of such false write-ups read, ‘Enough of this Political Correctness, I am a Biafran and Nothing Else- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’
In her reply, the award winning author of “Half of a Yellow Sun” took to her Facebook page to share a post with a photo of the headline apparently ascribed to her, with the caption:
“This headline below, and other similar headlines, which appeared on some websites: are false. They are completely invented; along with some accompanying quotes which have been attributed to me. I did not say or write those words.
-CNA”
Her disavowal is coming on a day the leader of Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, claimed that the person presently ruling the country is not Muhammadu Buhari, adding that the Nigerian government hired a look-alike to stand in for the president.
In June this year, she became the first Nigerian to bag Mary McCarthy Award.
Adichie was awarded the Mary McCarthy Award for her work as a writer and prominent public presence on social issues.
