Massimiliano Allegri has slammed the use of Video Assistant Referees, saying matches could last for hours if it is not used right.
Mandzukic had a goal ruled out when Juventus were 2-1 up, after referee Damato stopped play to watch a video replay of Lichsteiner catching Gomez with an elbow. The Juve man was shown a yellow.
Damato used the VAR again, towards the end of the match, awarding Juventus a penalty, after an alleged Petagna handball which was missed by Dybala. And Allegri feels the technology should not be used in subjective matters .
Allegri bemoaned the use of the technology, telling reporters: “If we want football to be a sport that is no longer a sport, then use VAR on every incident. However, if we get to March where every point becomes decisive, then games can last three or four hours.
“In my view, technology should only be used on objective situations — offside, in or out of the box, over the line or not — but when it comes to subjective situations, people are never going to agree. That’s sport.”
