Oldham today interviewed Paul Scholes for their vacant manager’s position.

Paul Scholes and current caretaker manager Richie Wellens are the leading candidates.

Former Burnley, Bolton, Wigan and Blackburn manager Owen Coyle is also in the mix and rated as a 12/1 chance.

But for many, especially locally, the name of Scholes seems an irresistible punt.

The United great, 42, is an Oldham fan and rejected the chance to manage the club following Lee Johnson’s 2015 departure.

Paul Scholes hosted training session for the club’s youth team last year while working towards his UEFA coaching badges and has never hidden his love for the Latics.
