Well known Nigerian singer and songwriter, Olawale Ashimi, with the stage name, Brymo, has inundated the internet with mixed reactions after he went nearly nude in his new visuals for Heya!, the lead single of his sixth studio album OSO.
In this video, which was recorded under a bridge in Lagos Island, the afro-soul singer can be seen walking about almost naked – except for a brown leather looking piece covering his groin area – as he emerges from the water.

The video, which captures the beauty of the lagoon city in its ruggedness, did not go down well with majority of his fans on social media.
While some hailed him for his creativity, projecting real art and staying true to his style of music, others nailed him for basking in the great beauty of his majestic nudity, urging him to bury his music career, as they claim he’s just an attention seeker.
In an Email sent to Pulse NG, the critically acclaimed singer had said: “I decided to appear how my forbears dressed before the arrival of civilization to Nubian continent.”
“We have all seen the costume in many movies, “Heya” was my own representation of that age; A bushman in the city, that’s my image of most black Africans of today. Although we reside in cities, we are still villagers in our thoughts and actions.”
But Nigerians still had to air their views on the semi-nude video.

Lol.. Brymo is really doing the most.
He is taking Nigerians too seriously.. They are not that deep.. They just want to hear legbegbe music and sleep— BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM (@BOOOMBGUY) March 28, 2018
People insulting Brymo cos he wore a G-string, if it was a white man y’all will say it’s art.
Something is wrong with you.— Olabode (@the_olabode) March 28, 2018
If you don’t like Brymo’s content, you are in the right place. You are not his audience and he is not pretending about that. Those who understand his art appreciate him.

Slavery of the mind is a very sad thing that needs to varnish among Africans.
Trust me, if Kanye West was at the centre of what Brymo did in that video, Nigerians attacking Brymo will call it fashion and take it as it is finding words to justify Yeezy.

I watched the new Brymo video and I almost cried.. That’s the state of creativity I never want to get to.. The thin line gets thinner. His creativity remains unmatched…

Ain’t entertaining no Brymo slander on my TL. As far as I’m concerned, anything he does is right by default, even if he decides to wear Bra, I will support him

Brymo is just too creative, and there is no real creativity without madness, I mean look at Einstein, van Gogh and Hunter S. Thompson.

Maybe we actually need to go back to the basic fact that Brymo wasn’t wearing G-string and what he wore had traditional significance in the African culture. Call it a throwback wear and maybe, just maybe, you will see it for what it really is, Cultural Art! pic.twitter.com/KVxpcKA7j6
