Marseille midfielder Dimitri Payet has dismissed claims by Nantes boss Claudio Ranieri that he had failed to act like “a gentleman” in the Ligue 1 fixture between the two clubs.
Sunday’s encounter ended in a 1-1 draw after Marseille netted a last-minute equaliser, but only after Payet had failed to return the ball to Nantes when two of their players had required treatment.
However, Payet has suggested that both Diego Carlos and Ciprian Tatarusanu had been feigning injury and feels that Florian Thauvin’s goal was “justice”.
Dimitri Payet is quoted by The Mirror as saying: “I’m a player who believes fair play but you cannot push it too far.
“When I see a goalkeeper and a defender on the floor without any contact, there comes a time that we have to stop. We played on and there you go. You can say it is justice.”
