Mexico striker Oribe Peralta will retire from the national team after Russia 2018 World Cup, he confirmed in an interview with Marca Claro.
The 34-year-old Club America striker has played 65 times for El Tri, netted 26 goals, and is expected to make the cut when coach Juan Carlos Osorio reduces his squad from 27 players to 23 on June 3.
“After the World Cup I’ll retire from the national team,” said Oribe Peralta, indicating his mind is already made up.
Peralta started all four of Mexico’s games at the 2014 World Cup and has been a regular in the national team since scoring four goals on El Tri‘s path to winning Olympic gold at London 2012.
Peralta started his club career at Santos Laguna, before moving to Club America in 2014.
