Mohamed Salah has been named as the FWA Player of the Year.

Mohamed Salah has enjoyed a sensational season which has seen him score 43 goals in all competitions and lead Liverpool to the semi-finals of the Champions League. He has matched the records of Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez – who all scored 31 goals in a season – with two games remaining.

And his efforts have been recognised by the Football Writers’ Association, whose award will sit alongside the same accolade from the PFA.

He becomes the first African winner of the award and the 15th player in the Premier League era to win the FWA and Players’ Football Association’s Player of the Year gongs in the same season.

Harry Kane was in third place but the Tottenham striker was a long way behind the top two as Salah and De Bruyne polled 90 per cent of the vote between them.

Salah will receive the trophy at a prestigious dinner on May 10 in London
